About Fabliko

Children learn to read by reading a lot. And they read more when it’s fun: when the story is about something they find exciting, when it isn’t too hard, and when they can see themselves in it. That’s why Fabliko makes stories in which your child plays the lead, at exactly the reading level they can manage. Fabliko is for parents and carers of children who are learning to read, or nearly are, from stories to read aloud to the highest reading levels.

What we make

Every child gets their own avatar and stories at their reading level, about things they love. Read them together on screen, or print them: as a poster for the loo, a fold-up booklet, word cards or a colouring page. That way reading fits into any moment of the day, screen or no screen.

How we work

• Every story fits one reading level. For each level we check sentence length, word length and tricky letter combinations, so your child gets it right.
• Every story is approved by a person before it goes online.
• No photos of your child. You build the avatar from pictures: skin tone, hairstyle, eyes. We only ask for a first name.
• More than one language. A story in another language isn’t a translation: it’s the same story told again, at the same reading level.

Who’s behind it

Fabliko is a Peace of Mind Media site, based in Amsterdam. Peace of Mind Media is the company behind Brabbels: the same team has run Brabbels, a site for parents and parents-to-be, since 2009, and also looks after its English-language edition, Mummable. Together those sites get around 19,000 visitors a day.

Our sites

• Brabbels: Dutch-language site and forum about trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth and babies, since 2009.
• Mummable: the English-language edition of Brabbels, with forum and articles.
• Fabliko (this site): reading stories in which your child plays the lead, at their own reading level.
