What age is Fabliko for?+
For children who are learning to read, or nearly are, from stories to read aloud up to the highest reading levels. You choose the level yourself. For younger children there are stories to read aloud; from Red book band onwards, your child reads on their own.
How do I know my child's reading level?+
Your child’s school assesses their reading and can tell you their level, for example in a report or at parents’ evening. If you don’t know it, ask the teacher. If you’re unsure, choose the lower level: at home, a text that’s just easy enough works best.
Do you have US reading levels?+
Yes. In your child’s profile, choose Guided reading levels (US) as the level system. In the United States, new profiles start on guided reading levels.
Can my child read in Dutch too?+
Yes. Choose Dutch as the reading language, and the level by the Dutch or Flemish AVI levels. Our Dutch stories aren’t translations: each one is the same story told again in Dutch, at the same reading level.
Do I need a photo of my child?+
No. You make the avatar from pictures: skin tone, hairstyle, hair colour, eye colour and, if you like, glasses or freckles. We only ask for a first name.
Can I add more than one child?+
Yes. Each child gets their own avatar, level, interests and bookshelf.
Who writes the stories?+
Every story is written for one reading level, checked for sentence length and difficult words, and approved by a person before it goes online.
Can I print the stories?+
Yes. Every story prints as a loo poster, and most also as a fold-up booklet, word cards and a colouring page. You print straight from your browser, on A4 (US Letter in the United States). In the print window, choose 100% (actual size).
What is the story of the week?+
Every week Fabliko picks a story for each child that they haven’t read yet, about something they love where possible. You’ll see it at the top of your child’s page, and you can also get it by email every Monday.
How do I turn the weekly email on or off?+
Go to Account and switch Email me the story of the week on or off.
How do I delete my account?+
Go to Account and choose Delete account. Your account, your children’s profiles and their reading history are then deleted.
