How Fabliko works

Three steps to a story with your child as the hero, at their own reading level. Read it on screen, or print a poster or a fold-up booklet.

1. Create an avatar

Choose skin tone, hairstyle, hair colour, eye colour and, if you like, glasses or freckles. It takes a minute, and your child will recognise themselves straight away. No photo needed. You also choose whether the story is about a boy or a girl, so “he” or “she” is always right.

2. Choose the reading level and interests

Choose the level your child’s school gives you. Fabliko knows the UK book bands, from read-aloud (Lilac) and the first band your child reads alone (Pink) up to Grey, the US guided reading levels, and the Dutch and Flemish AVI levels for children who read in Dutch. Then choose what your child loves: animals, space, water, vehicles, fairy tales, sport, music and more.

3. Read, print and put it up

Every week your child’s page has a story of the week, plus a bookshelf of stories your child picks themselves.

  • On screen: choose Read it myself (big letters, every sentence on its own line) or Read aloud (big pictures).
  • Loo poster: the whole story on one sheet of A4 (US Letter in the United States), with a row of days to tick off. Reading it every day for a week makes your child a more fluent reader.
  • Fold-up booklet: one sheet, one snip, eight pages. A little book of their own for the school bag.
  • Word cards: the words from the story, to cut out and practise.
  • Colouring page: a picture from the story to colour in.

Rewards

When your child finishes a story, they tap I read it. After 3, 10, 25, 50 and 100 stories your child earns a certificate to print. With the reading chart you keep track together, for four weeks, of the days you’ve read.
